For six years, /Film was my home for film and television criticism. From June 2017 to June 2021, I contributed to the site on a freelance, article-by-article basis. From July 2021 to July 2023, I maintained an hourly News Writer position. More recently, I’ve branched out and contributed to Inverse and Dread Central. Pull-quotes from my movie and TV reviews have appeared on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, in the Television Academy’s Emmy Magazine, and in official AMC and Toho promos.
This portfolio collects mostly evergreen features—over 400 articles, which is just a fraction of my total output. It’s divided into these sections:

Author’s Note
The links below run the gamut from simple 500-word articles to deep dives over 3,000 words, and everything in between.
For the most part, I’m proud of my work, though it’s obviously not perfect. There may be occasional published typos, screwy indentation, or other goofs and glitches. As a writer, I could always request corrections, but certain things were above my pay grade to fix.
Just a little disclaimer from an OCD gent whose early writing may yet be naïve in the way of a fanboy or dilettante. The more I learn about the craft and commerce of film, the more humbled I am by how much more there is yet to know. This portfolio just demonstrates the learning experience I had over time while writing about Hollywood from an overseas perspective. (I’ve worked remotely in Tokyo since 2017.) Each article reflects how I felt at the time and how my interests aligned with those of my editors.
I reserve the right to change my opinion. That opinion should only ever be viewed in the spirit of constructive criticism in a writing workshop.
To search for a specific movie or TV title I might have covered, you can do the “Find on Page” thing in your mobile browser, or hit the usual keyboard shortcuts on your computer (Command + F for a Mac, Ctrl + F for Windows).
I also have a few other portfolios with more extensive writing on Star Wars, Japanese films, and Disney parks.
Unless otherwise noted, all the links below are to /Film.

Up to this point, most of the articles I’ve shared in this portfolio have come from my own ideas or pitches I made. Everything below this line is different in that I grabbed it from an assignment board with pre-generated headlines and SEO prompts. Keeping up the flow of content like that was part of the News Writer job, which came with certain time constraints. This is just a sampling of posts where I was able to spend a few extra minutes researching and/or writing them while on the clock.

There were even fewer minutes available to write breaking news stories since those were, by their very nature, more urgent and less evergreen. If something Marvel-related, let’s say, was deemed time-sensitive, I might have to crank out a post with a pizza-delivery deadline of 30 to 45 minutes.
In this way, the two years I spent working full-time at /Film kept me busy living my own best Spider-Man 2 life—as a moped driver and deliverer of movie news instead of pizzas. Between July 2021 and June 2023, I wrote hundreds of news stories. This is a time capsule of news that inspired the most water cooler discussion, news that still holds some historical value or offbeat reading appeal, and news that enriched or enlarged my personal understanding of the entertainment industry.
