This year, Tokyo Disneyland retired two of its opening-day attractions, StarJets and Grand Circuit Raceway. Since 1983, both of these rides have formed an integral part of the backdrop of Tomorrowland. Now, they’ve closed in order to make way for the expansion of Fantasyland and redevelopment of Toontown—an ongoing project that is scheduled to be completed in 2020, just in time for the Tokyo Olympics.
Grand Circuit Raceway closed back in January. There is now a long construction wall stretching past where it and the front gate of Toontown used to be. For now, at least, this means we’ve seen the last of the big cartoon jack-o-lanterns that once welcomed costumed guests through the gate for Halloween.

It is always a bittersweet occasion for Disney fans when a piece of the parks is lost to history. Out of respect for the dearly departed (rest in peace, rides), we now embark on a silent photo tour of StarJets and Grand Circuit Raceway, two newly extinct attractions at Tokyo Disneyland in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan.
